A Comprehensive Digital Literacy Programme
Sunshine Online offers 2 libraries – Decodable and Levelled – for beginning to fluent readers.
New Zealand schools can apply for a free grant from the Pye Foundation to access both libraries in Sunshine Online free for 2025.
Sunshine Online now contains two comprehensive libraries to suit all stages of teaching literacy, offering quality texts for children who are just beginning to read, right through to those who are developing fluency and independence.
The Decodable Library supports schools in their structured literacy approach to teaching. In the Decodable Library, 180 decodable books are automatically unlocked as students work their way through the systematic and sequential order of learning. There are phonics activities and a read and record feature. Digital assessment is included. [Note that the Decodable Library is the Australian edition, featuring Australian illustration and voiceover.
The Levelled Library is a literacy and maths programme. There are over 900 fiction and non-fiction books, all with voice-over and activities, that can be used for literacy learning and practice with hundreds of skills activities, as well as project-based inquiry for STEAM writing and research. There are 91 books covering 22 levels introducing mathematics. Sunshine Online is organised into three Learning Spaces for Emergent, Early and Fluent readers.
Both libraries can be used in the classroom for independent learning, and for take-home reading.
